“Himalayan Joy: best in class service and support; extremely cost-effective”
My wife and I spent three weeks trekking and climbing in the Everest region of Nepal in November 2013 with Himalayan Joy as our outfitter. We also spent a month in the Annapurna region of Nepal in 2003 with Ram Karki, one of the owners of Himalayan Joy, as our guide, and we've trekked and climbed in most of the key regions of the world with a wide range of outfitters. This is the basis of our experience for our evaluation of Himalayan Joy.
The bottom line: Himalayan Joy is the best outfitter we've ever had the pleasure to work with anywhere in the world. The owners, guides and porters are, in our experience, all the best of the best--extremely knowledgeable, passionate about outstanding service and support, and interesting people to spend a journey of a lifetime with.
With the Everest trip, we spent about six months in planning, and were in at least weekly contact with Ram and Cholendra, Himalayan Joy's owners. Their responsiveness could not have been better.
During the trek, every single choice Himalayan Joy made on our behalf was well-informed and basically perfect. We once were delayed by about eight hours, and our guide, Vikram, waited late into the night to meet us. That level of support seems to be normal for the owners and staff of Himalayan Joy.
For less than the cost of group travel with REI or any number of other vendors in the U.S. who organize treks in Nepal, Himalayan Joy organized a customer itinerary for only my wife and myself, and were happy to make revisions to the itinerary as we wished--which allowed us to adapt to changing conditions at high altitude, to spend more time in areas that we liked the best, etc.
All in all, We've known the folks at Himalayan Joy for more than ten years and have always found them to be the most professional outfitters in the business, persons of the highest honor and the only team we wish to work with on high altitude trekking in Nepal. Both of our trips were truly extraordinary, thanks to their expertise and extreme customer focus.
Our advice to anyone traveling to Nepal would be to skip the tour operators that are based in your country and work directly with the folks at Himalayan Joy, who speak a handful of western languages, are easy to work with and can create custom itineraries at favorable pricing. That way your travel funds will also remain in Nepal.
Our May 2012 Mt.Kailash-Lake Manasarovar pilgrimage, was the second we have done so far. We found the trip to be truly satisfying. All due to Cholendra -an extraordinary tour organiser and guide. Although it was an incredibly challenging trip, due to many reasons, the altitude, minimal facilities and the extreme weather conditions, Cholendra's quiet confidence, patience, encouragement and attention to details greatly assisted us in successfully completing the yatra. From obtaining the permits on time, the delicious food, the trouble-free transportation to the wonderful accommodation in Kathmandu, no one could have done it better. Thank you Cholendra and the staff of Himalayan Joy for the constant support and care provided especially during the very trying moments of the pilgrimage and for making this trip a meaningful and memorable one. Our next yatra will definitely be with you!Our May 2012 Mt.Kailash-Lake Manasarovar pilgrimage, was the second we have done so far. We found the trip to be truly satisfying. Trekking to the Dudh Kunda sacred lake with the best guide of Nepal: Cholendra Karki
During our 7 months trip around Central Asia, we spent 3 months in Nepal to discover the beauty of Himalayan Mountains. We chose Himalayan Joy adventure because of the friendly spirit of their team.
The trekking organization was perfect in all senses, due to our guide's Cholendra professionalism and experience. Fifteen days of amazing views and excellent food, crossing beautiful rhododendron forests until the holy lake where we had a merited day of rest for the team and exploring day for us. The most fascinating part of the trip was the visit to our team members' village, in a deep valley surrounded by forest. We participated to Tihar festival at the nice Karki village of Basa, sharing warm moments with all the people from the community.
We strongly recommend Himalayan Joy Adventure as your next travel companion. For us there is no doubt (kunda) about that!
I am very happy to write to you and recommend Ram’s trekking agency.
Since 1996 I know Ram Kaji Karki and made my very first trek with him to the
Everest Base Camp.
Back then he was working for a big German trekking agency called Henkalaya and for Gorkha Trek in Nepal. He was the best guide and cook. Later Henkalaya sold their contracts to another company in Kathmandu, because there were some serious problems with the head of the agency, not with Ram.
Ram then started his own trekking agency and we made a lot of tours together, to the Annapurna, Thorang-La and Gosainkunda pass, for example.Ram has tremendous experience, because he started as a porter, assistant guide, and cook and eventually as a trekking leader. He really is an excellent guide for trekking as well as mountain climbing, for example to the Mera Peak, Island Peak and Yela Peak.He provides his co-workers with good equipment such as tents and clothing and has a good relation with his staffs, which mostly comes from the Solu region near the village, where Ram originates. They all like to work with him, because he pays fair prices. On top Ram also offers very competitive trekking prices to his clients, since he is not interested in the fast buck.
I have been to Nepal many times and in different parts and noticed that many trekking companies do not have sufficient equipment such as tents and other utensils for the tourists and the carriers.Ram does speak English very well and a bits and German too. I would really like to invite him to Germany. To my knowledge, there is no other agency in Nepal, which offers that much experience, good service at a competitive price as well as the very kind workers. You can find others, but not such as Ram’s trekking outfit. Whoever ever goes to his company all the customer are very happy and satisfied with his services.
With these recommendations, I want to wish you the greatest vacation in the Himalaya region in Nepal in this wonderful country with all those very beautiful people. If you desire more and further information about Nepal, please let me know, I am always here for you.
My very best regards to you,
